Assa (south Morocco), 09/01/2006 (SPS) The Saharawi population in Assa organised a sit-in, on Sunday in front of the local agency of transportation in the city, calling for the "immediate release of all Saharawi political prisoners" and expressing their "solidarity with the Saharawi citizens in the occupied city of El Aaiun", reported the correspondent of SPS on the ground.
Demonstrators chanted slogans calling for the "independence of Western Sahara" and "rejecting any solution outside the exercise of the Saharawi people of their right to self-determination and independence", through a free and just referendum under the auspices of the UN, the same source indicated.
They also paid tribute to Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan custody, "reaffirming the continuity of the uprising of independence that defends Saharawi people's right to exercise their right to self-determination, in addition to the release of all Saharawi political prisoners", SPS's correspondent concluded.
Dozens Saharawi citizens organised a demonstration, last Monday in Assa, to celebrate the New Year and call for the "unconditioned and immediate" release of all Saharawi political prisoners, it should be recalled. (SPS)
