Durban (South Africa), 04/09/2006 A Saharawi delegation chaired by the Saharawi Ambassador to Pretoria participated, as a guest of the South African Government, to the high officials (SOM) meeting on the strategic partnership between Asia and Africa, which was held from the 1st to the 3rd of September 2006 in Durban (South Africa).
The Moroccan delegation’s manœuvre aimed to hinder the participation of the Saharawi Republic "miserably" failed despite the attitude of some countries, especially Arab countries.
The Saharawi Ambassador to Pretoria, Oubbi Bouchraya, hailed the positive neutrality of the participating Asiatic countries and expressed the gratitude of the Saharawi people to many African countries, especially to South Africa, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya as well as the members States of the SADC, for the “brotherly and unconditional” support to the just cause of the Saharawi people during the debates. A Saharawi NGO denounces the human rights violations in the Western Sahara
El Aaiun (occupied territories), 04/09/2006 (SPS) The Saharawi Committee for the Referendum in the Western Sahara (CSRSO) denounced n Sunday the human rights abuses to which some Saharawi citizens were subjected to between Thursday and Friday by the Moroccan colonial authorities in the occupied capital of the Saharawi Republic, El Aaiun, according to a press release publicised by the Committee the same day, of which SPS received a copy.The Committee « firmly » condemned the arrest and "savage" torture of the ex-Saharawi political detainee, Alouate Sidi Mohamed, who was lately found abandoned in a bad state few kilometres outside the city of El Aaiun.Mr. Alouate Sidi Mohamed was arrested last Thursday by Moroccan police agents disguised in civil clothes while he was peacefully walking around in the streets of the occupied city with his younger brother, Alouate Hamza, the same source said.The text also denounced the case of torture and ill-treatment by police agents of the Saharawi ex-political prisoners, Houssein Ndour and Mahmoud Houeidi, who were also accompanied by the Saharawi citizen, Feissal Abderrahmane Bougarfa, the son of the ex-political prisoners, Abderrahmane Bougarfa.The CSRSO expressed its solidarity with the Saharawi citizen, Yaya Salka Terrouzi, who was recently arrested in a Moroccan military post of control upon her return to her country from a visit to the Mauritanian city, Nouadhibou, accompanied by her daughter and her three sons (aged between 3 years old to 13 years).The Committee also expressed its solidarity with the Saharawi political prisoners calling for their “unconditional” release, especially the human rights activists and political detainees, Brahim Sabbar, Ahmed Sbaii, Hadi El Keinan and el Hafed Toubali.
