Moroccan authorities release Doctor Ali Sbaai
M'hamid al Ghizlane (South of Morocco), 11/03/2006 (SPS) The Saharawi Doctor, Ali Sbaai ould Mohamed Cheikh ould Sid Laabasse, who was serving a six months imprisonment sentence since last February 2006, was released on Thursday by the Moroccan authorities in M'hamid al Ghizlane, indicated concordant sources.
The family of Doctor Ali Sbaai had organised a sit-in in front of the civil prison in Ouarzazat advocating the release of their son, who was brought before the appealing court and imprisoned, the same source stressed.
The release of the Saharawi Doctor, which comes after the appeal launched on Wednesday by the Saharawi human rights defenders and the pressures exercised by the Saharawi citizens of this city who demanded his release "constitutes a victory to the law and to justice", declared a Saharawi human rights activist to SPS.
The Saharawi human rights activists also called on the international human rights organisations "to exercise pressures on the Moroccan Government for the release of Doctor, Ali Sbaai", the press release concluded.
Mr. Ali Sbaai ould Mohamed Cheikh ould Sid Laabasse, whose origin is Saharawi and who has got a double nationality, Moroccan and Swiss, is a Doctor and hotel-keeper. He lives in M'hamed al Ghizlane. He manages a tourist company, Iriki expedition [http://www.blogger.com/www.iriki.com].
The victim was sentenced six months imprisonment and was arrested last February the 2nd. He started a hunger strike to ask for his release. The population of his city demonstrated many times protest against this condemnation, it should be recalled. (SPS)

The Saharawi Ambassador in Pretoria received at the seat of te South African Parliament
Pretoria, 11/03/2006 (SPS) The Saharawi Ambassador to South Africa, Ubbi Bechraya, was received on Thursday at the seat of the South African Parliament by the President of the Parliament, Mrs. Gertrude Monkila, to whom he handed over a message from the President of the Saharawi Parliament, indicated a press release publicised by the Saharawi Embassy on Thursday in Pretoria.
The meetings between the two parties tackled the "the international dynamic aiming to decolonise the Western Sahara, the engagement of the Saharawi Government to support the South African Parliament, been the continental democratic institution in which the African peoples have a lot of hopes for the deepening of democracy and development", the press release stressed.
Mrs. Monkila vividly thanked the Saharawi Government for the "support to the representatives of the Saharawi Parliament in the works of works of the African Parliament" and renewed "the constant support of its institution, such as the African Union, to the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence", the text added.
The meeting was attended by the Councillor to the Saharawi Embassy, Mr. Tayeb Sedigh, and by Mrs. Chubi Moukorassi, Assistant of the President of the South African Parliament. (SPS)
